Does your office style border on the wild side, or are you the picture of professionalism? No matter how casual your office is, some things you just shouldn't wear to work. Find out the dos and don'ts of dressing for work.

Transcript: Office Fashion Dos and Don'ts

Guys -  you've got a job - if you're lucky, it's one that allows you to wear whatever you want to work. But, for the scores of millions of Americans who punch a card at the office, attire is not usually quite so laid back. Try these office dos and don'ts on for size, and you're guaranteed to look your best, without getting fired. Check it out.

Check Company Dress Code

Before you put anything on, it's probably best to check out your company-specific dress code. A good number of offices are business casual, but rules can vary, so before you get into a tangle with a supervisor, be sure you know the company line. Which hopefully is something like, "Heck, every day's Friday here!" Oh wait, that was a restaurant I once worked in.

Office Fashion Don'ts

As a general rule, avoiding the following is probably best: sweat pants, sneakers, t-shirts, sloppy items like ripped jeans, revealing items like spaghetti straps, strapless tops, or tank tops, flip flops, cheap suits, or anything polyester. You should probably also avoid baseball hats and bandanas, or any combination thereof.

Classically Accepted Office Wear

Instead, stick to cleaned and pressed pants and button down shirts, skirts no shorter than just above-the-knee, v-neck , shoes that cover both your heel and toes, and camisoles - .  Jeans are somewhere on the middle ground - if you do opt for them, make sure they're straight-legged, dark, and absent any "wear lines" or other markings. Many companies only allow jeans on casual Friday .

Stay Polished and Professional in the Office

It's also best to avoid wearing any strongly scented perfume or cologne, As for facial hair, it's generally discouraged in the office, but if you insist on a stash or a beard, make sure they are neatly trimmed, and make you distinguished.

Professional Bedding Tips

Duvets and Comforters

The duvets and comforters look so inviting in the photos, and it’s an easy look to get at home. Duvets are usually folded down and placed at the end of the bed and comforters usually folded down not quite as far. White sheets are used to set off their colors better, and they don’t show through at all to ‘muddy’ up the color.

While some tricks of the trade are better left on the photos of the design magazines, there are some that will slip right into your bedroom to make your bed look like it belongs in House Beautiful.

Dos and Donts

Do's and Don't's of Bedroom Decorating

Do
Consider function when decorating any room of your home, particularly the bedroom. The function is, of course, to provide a relaxing, comfortable environment for sleep.

Don’t
Turn your bedroom into a multi-functional room. Sleep and comfort reign supreme in the bedroom, keep desks and work areas out of the room.

Do
Paint your bedroom in a relaxing, serene color that makes you happy. Choose greens, blues and yellows - or  Lavender

Don’t
Use faux painting techniques in the bedroom, when you can’t sleep, you’ll analyze every stroke of the finish.

Do
Use paint samples on the bedroom wall to choose a color.

Don’t
Choose color from a paint chip in the store.

Do
Allow yourself to watch television in the bedroom, although sleep experts say you should not have a television set in the bedroom, reality says otherwise.

Don’t
Allow your television to become the focal point of your bedroom. Make it as unobtrusive as possible or have an armoire or cabinet to hide it away.

Do
Invest in a quality, comfortable bed. You’re spending at least ¼ of your day there, it’s worth it.

Don’t
Keep your mattress and bedsprings for longer than 15 years – they wear out. If you notice your back is sore in the mornings and you’re more tired than usual,

Do
Do decorate your bedroom as you would any other room in the house.

Don’t
Skimp on furniture and accessories because no one else will see it.

Do
Have all types of lighting in the bedroom – ambient, task, accent and decorative.

Don’t
Rely on one overhead light for all your lighting needs.

Do
Arrange furniture for you to easily enter and exit the bedroom without twists and turns

Don’t
Put the side of your bed against the wall or on a diagonal in the corner.

Tyler Perry Writes Open Letter To Fans About Kim Kardashian, Plus Talib Kweli Defends Tyler

Kimmy K completed filming her scenes for Tyler Perry’s new movie ‘The Marriage Counselor’ over the weekend but her role hasn’t come without controversy. There were rumored reports that she had been receiving death threats while on set and Tyler Perry fans have flooded his website with complaints with disappointed fans who have threatened to boycott his movies.

In response to the criticism, Tyler Perry wrote an open letter to his fans, especially the ‘mad black woman’ on his website. He wrote:

I think many of you know that this is a very difficult time of year for me, so what I try to do is make sure that I’m working during this time. All I wanted to do was shoot a great film and try to keep my mind off the holiday grief that I have been experiencing for the past two years. I could not have imagined I’d be getting all these emails about Kim Kardashian. I HAVE SEEN THEM!! YOU HAVE BEEN HEARD!! …LOL. Now, may I say something? Can a brother get a word in?….LOL. Y’all gave me a new movie title, Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman Cause You Hired Kim Kardashian, Don’t Make Me Take Off My Earrings and Boycott Yo A**.”…LOL. Some of my ladies are upset. Ok, all jokes aside, can I have my say? Will you at least here me out?

I was in a Mexican restaurant and the cutest little old woman stopped me and said, “I want to talk to you about KAR-DAT- CHA-NEM.” I said, “Ma’am?” She said, “What is wrong with you putting her in the lead role of your movie?” By the time I explained to her that she was not in the lead role and why I thought she should be in “The Marriage Counselor”, she said, “Oh, I see your point and I can’t wait to see the movie.” So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to share with you what I said to her then maybe you’ll see why I wanted her in the film.

This movie is about a young lady named Judith (Jurnee Smolett), who grew up in the countryside of Virginia in a trailer park. She was raised in the church by her mother Sarah (Ella Joyce). Judith married her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross) and had the perfect life until she graduated college and went to work in the big city. After college, all she wanted to do was be a marriage counselor, but the only job she could find was working for a matchmaker named Janice (Vanessa Williams). Janice has several employees that work for her, including a woman named Ava (Kim Kardashian). Ava is constantly trying to influence Judith on everything from her shoes to her hair. Judith meets a man at work named Harley (Robbie Jones). Harley challenges everything in her life from her marriage to her husband to her faith. Meanwhile, Brice (Lance Gross), Judith’s husband works at a pharmacy owned by Mrs. Waco (Renee Taylor). Brice has just hired a coworker named Melinda (Brandy), who has some major demons that she is running from. In the end, the choices that both of these young women have made come crashing down on them and their lives will never be the same. I wish I could tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin it for you.

After I finished writing this movie, I sat back and re-read it. Half way through my read, the gravity of what I had written hit me. I knew that this message was not only for my age group, but for all audiences, especially the youth. ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH!! YOUNG FOLKS NEED TO SEE THIS!!! And not just the young people that follow me, but the young people that are following other young people, as well. I wanted a younger cast, that’s why I put Jurnee in the lead and invited Lance Gross, Robbie Jones and Brandy. About two months ago, long before I even heard about Kim’s marriage or divorce, I was trying to finish up the casting. I said to one of my producers, “who else is out there that young people are looking up to?” One of my producers showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought, what better person! She literally has millions of young people following her. I thought and still do think, that it would be very responsible of her to be a part of this film. To have the young people that look up to her, see her in a film that is about, what happens in life when you make the wrong choices. Whether you’re aware of it or not, to be honest with you I wasn’t, millions of young people adore her and are following her every move. If one of those young people see this film and find the strength to live a better life and not go through what these characters went through in this movie, then we have all done what I feel I’m being led to do here. I hope you understand. I really do!

And lastly, because I believe that my films speak from the inside out, why wouldn’t Kim Kardashian be invited into a film about Faith, Forgiveness and the healing power of God? What is wrong with that??

Talib Kweli has also spoken out in Tyler Perry’s defense. In a recent interview with Vibe magazine, he was asked about the controversy surrounding Kim Kardashian in Tyler’s films and he responded:

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard all day. I don’t know what the film is about, but she may be perfect for the role. Maybe she’s not perfect for the role, but he cast her because when you put her in a movie, people are going to come see her. Either way, it’s a win-win for him; either way, it’s a good decision on his part. I’ve got respect for any businessman who employs some of my favorite artists, from Cicely Tyson to Taraji P. Henson, all of these women have gotten checks from Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry has been supporting the Black actress more than anyone in Hollywood. Whether you agree with him or not, whether you like his movies or not. But we’re not talking about quality plots or storylines and this and that. But the idea that you boycott? First of all, if you’re the type of person who cares about race issues, then you need to respect that man for what he’s done for Black actors. I’m talking as a working artist, not as a community leader. Personally, I’m not a fan per se of his films, but I damn sure know why they work. And if you are a fan of his films, you don’t have any business worried about if he casts Kim Kardashian, that’s a great idea.

The fact of the matter is, Tyler Perry made a business decision when it came down to choosing Kim Kardashian for the role. Whether it was a good or bad one, we won’t know until the film is released and Box Office numbers are available but he obviously went with the ‘flavor of the moment’ in hopes to get out of the ‘films with stereotypical black characters’ box that Hollywood has placed him in. Whether people love or hate the Kardashians, there are a ton of people that continue to buy into that brand and buy up everything they are involved with. Now, It will be interesting to see if people really boycott the film or if he eventually alienates his fanbase, …especially with that ‘Diary of a mad black woman’ line. I’m sure that struck a nerve.

HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR STRENGTHS

Discovering your true talents isn't always easy. The trick: Let someone else do it for you.

How often have you gotten a compliment on your creativity or your patience or your resilience, only to wave it off, assuming that these strengths must come easily to everyone? In my 30 years as a lifestyle/career coach and author, the mistake I see people make time and again is failing to recognize their talents. An honest inventory may be difficult—even impossible—for you to do yourself. So sit with a friend and try this exercise. It's a new twist on something I call the Self-Correcting Life Scenario, and it's one of my favorites.

1. Ask your friend to name three of your strengths (The words in the image above may provide some inspiration.)

2. Tell your friend your top passion. Then have your friend tell an imaginary story of your life, based on this passion and your strengths. For instance, "You're organized, creative, and friendly, and your passion is baking. So, you run a bakery where customers can buy cupcakes with little icing portraits of themselves."

3. Take a minute to imagine this fantasy as your real life. Tell your friend what appeals to you ("Making cupcakes with artistic frosting would be awesome!") and what makes you cringe ("I'd never start my own business—the thought of bookkeeping gives me hives")

4. Now your friend revises the story based on your feedback. ("Okay, you organize monthly bake sales at the local Boys & Girls Club. Kids buy the cupcakes and paint their own portraits.")

5. Keep going back and forth until the story feels right. This may take three or 13 rounds—there's no need to rush. Your friend will likely suggest unexpected scenarios. Don't let knee-jerk objections ("That would cost too much!" "When would I have time?") shape your feedback. This is about crafting a scenario tailored to your strengths.

6. Stop when the story feels completely satisfying. You've just shaped your passion into a goal and defined what you do and don't want from your calling.

The Amazon Rainforest, also known as Amazonia, the Amazon jungle or the Amazon Basin, encompasses seven million square kilometers (1.7 billion acres), though the forest itself occupies some 5.5 million square kilometers (1.4 billion acres), located within nine nations. The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests and comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest in the world. The Amazon River is the largest river in the world by volume, with a total flow greater than the top ten rivers worldwide combined. It accounts for approximately one-fifth of the total world river flow and has the biggest drainage basin on the planet. Not a single bridge crosses the Amazon.

The joy at Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay entering the temporary list of the seven new wonders of nature has been tempered by concerns the high profile could see an unmanageable spurt in tourism, damaging the world heritage site.
